History

1970 Annunciation Orthodox School, located in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral's educational building, opens its doors to a handful of preschool children.

AOS adds a grade level each year, carefully creating challenging curricula while preserving the atmosphere of love and family.

1988

AOS takes its first step toward growth beyond the church facilities by opening the homelike Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Early Childhood Development Center.

1989

AOS is accepted by acclamation into the prestigious Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and is accredited with commendations in 21 areas.

AOS applicant pool triples.

AOS becomes independently incorporated keeping an active affiliation with the church.

1992

AOS launches the "Breaking New Ground . . . Building on Excellence" capital campaign. Parents, friends and Houston area foundations respond with over $5 million.

AOS starts a middle school. A grade level is added per year, and the middle school, grades five through eight, are complete.

1993

AOS kindergarten through fourth grade students occupy the new Katherine E. Veletsos Lower School building.

1996 The Steve G. Caloudas Activity Center is completed to accommodate
athletic activities and school performances. Parents and friends once again exceed the $800,000 goal to raise over $1 million making this long awaited dream a reality.
2002 After a successful capital campaign AOS opens its new 64,000 square foot main building, renovates the lower school, and adds a new athletic field.
