The AOS Middle School Library is unique.
Students are able to visit independently during
times such as advisory. They also visit the
library during class to work on projects and
for enrichment classes such as Caught in the
Pages, the AOS literary class magazine. Research
projects, such as the sixth grade ancient
history project, are planned together by teachers
and librarians. The Middle School Library
has several computer stations to conduct research
on the web as well as a wealth of informative
print material in house. The teamwork used
to create and implement the projects shows
through in the students’ understanding
of both the concepts of the class and the
knowledge gained about how to look for and
synthesize information. Educators and librarians
work together on student book clubs that focus
on literature from a variety of genres. The
collection of books housed in the Middle School
Library covers a variety of interests, appropriate
reading levels, and a range of topics. The
AOS Middle School Library truly is utilized
as another classroom and is a place of active
learning that enriches the school’s
curriculum.
