Middle School

The Middle School at AOS is an exciting place. With 300 students from fifth through eighth grade, we strive to be a school where young people can feel safe and are encouraged to achieve their goals. We are committed to embracing the Christian principles of love, compassion, and respect for others when working with our students and parents. AOS provides its students with an excellent education and opportunities for them to explore their individual interests and talents.

Our administrators, faculty, and staff are all dedicated to the success of our students. AOS academics are challenging, and our students are well-rounded, hardworking, young people.
The core curriculum consists of science, mathematics, language arts, history and Spanish, which begins in sixth grade. In addition to our core enrichment classes in religion, art, drama, music, and computer, we offer creative writing, journalism, yearbook, and literary magazine. AOS promotes good health and physical fitness by making physical education a vital part of each day. We also offer a variety of competitive team sports which foster teamwork and sportsmanship. Student Council, community service, choir, art club and chess club are also excellent extra-curricular activities for our middle school students.

Two unique aspects of Middle School are AGAPE and our Chapel Buddy Program. AGAPE is our daily assembly, excluding Chapel Day, where we come together for prayer, the pledge of allegiance, and student speeches. Each student, with the guidance of their language arts teacher, writes a short speech on a topic of personal interest and presents it to the student body. This activity enables our students to develop their public speaking skills in a safe and respectful environment. In seventh grade, students are paired with a kindergarten “buddy” with whom they attend chapel every Thursday. They also attend field trips, participate together in a variety of activities, and in general are role models for the younger students. The buddies remain together throughout seventh and eighth grade. It is a one-of-a-kind relationship that each treasures and remembers fondly when looking back on their AOS years.

Together with our parents, we guide our students through the exhilarating and sometimes challenging middle school years. As a team, we prepare them for high school and life beyond AOS. Our Heading for High School Program begins in seventh grade and assists families with the task of finding the best high school for their child. There is a strong sense of family on the campus of AOS, and we hope that our concern for each other will make a difference in the lives of our families and the broader community.
