Message from Head of School

Mark KellyDear Parents,

From the first time I walked through the door, it was apparent that Annunciation Orthodox School was a school that knew itself. Strolling around campus, I was struck by the community's cohesiveness and spirit. There was a sense of excitement, a sense of expectation, and a sense of joy. It was clear that everyone - students, faculty, staff, parents, and administration - understood and believed in the school and in its mission.

Although enrollment, location, and facilities have changed dramatically during our history, there has been one constant: the culture. It has been the people who have created this culture. We are a dedicated faculty - dedicated to children, dedicated to learning, and dedicated to helping children discover what they can do.

Strong academic challenge is our first goal. The teachers and the curriculum challenge each child to stretch beyond oneself and delve into the mystery and wonder of learning. We want our children to learn to think for themselves, to ask questions, and to seek the answers to these questions. Although difficult work is a hallmark of this charge, it is not as formidable as it may appear. Because we are child-centered, we create an atmosphere where children find it safe to explore, to self-discover, to learn, and even to fail.

Respect for individual differences is also a crucial component to a child's education at AOS. To be part of a community, we must understand that everyone is important, that everyone has something to offer, and that the school is the thread that ties us together. AOS is a happy school. Teachers love to teach here, and students love to attend school here. Please join us to see the classrooms in action and to experience the AOS community. We look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,Mark Kelly icon
