Building Board Games
Penny Angelo

Both seventh- and eighth-grade students in STEM class were tasked with designing or redesigning a board game. Seventh-grade students redesigned popular board games in order to address color blindness deficiency, visual acuity, and difficulty with fine motor skills. These design changes were intended to increase accessibility and make the game more universal. Eighth-grade students designed their own board games using the design thinking process, playtesting, and peer feedback. Students incorporated themes, mechanics, and rules of play in their original board game design. To conclude this unit, students put on a showcase to share their creations with faculty and staff on campus. Each group of students made very thoughtful decisions in their design and enjoyed sharing their work!
