Building Bridges
Penny Angelo

The city needs a new bridge and 3rd-grade students are ready to take on the assignment! Students in Ms. Coyle’s STEM class are working collaboratively on a bridge-building project. After completing research to build their background knowledge on types of bridges, students were presented with a real-life problem. The two-lane bridge that spans Buffalo Bayou is being replaced by a four-lane bridge. It’s up to students to design a bridge that is both artistic and strong enough to hold four lanes of traffic. Using craft sticks, cardboard tubes, rubber bands, masking tape, and more, our 3rd-grade engineers are well on their way to success. Eventually, these bridges will be showcased and scored by a panel of judges.
