Cupcake Classroom
Penny Angelo

Delphi students took “Pat-a-cake” to a whole new level this morning! Once a month, Delphi classrooms participate in Fun Friday Rhyme Time, an expansion of their literacy program, Phonological Five. During this time, students focus on the rhyme of the month and move from station to station working on a variety of skills tied to the topic of the rhyme. Today, students explored four stations. The first included fine motor skills and math as students counted objects, matched shapes, and sorted by color into cupcake tins. In the second station, students worked to identify letters and sounds with an app on their iPads. The third station was most colorful as students decorated a paper cupcake using construction paper, their creativity, and glitter! The final station was a crowd favorite. While listening carefully to directions, students made delicious vanilla cupcakes from start to finish. They even had a little help from Mr. De La Cruz in the kitchen. He placed the cupcakes into the oven to bake. To top off their busy morning, students frosted their own cupcakes during snack time, and to no one’s surprise, they were gobbled up very quickly with smiles all around. Our littlest Dolphins had a wonderful time reciting “Pat-a-cake” and putting their skills into practice. Rhymers make readers, and we can’t wait to hear next month’s Fun Friday Rhyme!
