6th-grade students in Mrs. Martin’s class brought Egyptian history to life through social media. Each student used their creativity and artistic abilities to create an Instagram or Facebook account for an ancient Egyptian God or Goddess. The next step of the project included a gallery walk where each social media page was displayed in the hallway for students to learn from each other. With clipboards in hand, students walked around answering questions such as, “What relevant details do you know about the God’s/Goddess’ myth?” and “What do these stories tell us about Egyptian values?” Students will eventually use these notes to prepare for a final writing assignment. Social media can tell us a lot about a person today, so it’s no surprise that this clever assignment taught students a great deal about ancient Egypt!
