My Father's Daughter with Joni Zavitsanos
Isabelle Dom

Former AOS religion teacher and daughter of renowned iconographer Diamantis John Cassis, Joni Zavitsanos opened My Father’s Daughter at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston in January. Zavitsanos describes this special exhibition as a chronicling of her father’s work side by side with her own by recreating the ancient imagery of the Byzantine era with a modern statement.

Art Teachers Amy Ailor and Meredith Wise organized a Meet Me at the Museum which allowed a special opportunity for AOS students to view Zavitsanos’ work and speak with the artist directly! Meet Me at the Museum provides AOS students the opportunity to meet their art teachers at specially selected exhibitions for a come-and-go opportunity to engage with and learn more about the thriving arts
scene that Houston has to offer.
