During this year's opening assembly, Dr. Fragomeni shared with everyone in attendance that our priority for the 2022-2023 year will be "Serving Others Together." He charged everyone to look for ways in which they can serve others - both big and small, inside and outside of our school. Our mission states that we encourage each individual child “to become a responsible member of our society.” This year-long initiative will be just one of the many ways we ensure our students work toward this goal.

Teachers will incorporate this priority throughout the year with their classes. Some examples of what has already occurred and a preview of some exciting plans are below: 

• Our community donated school supplies and backpacks to children in need through BEAR Houston at our Back to School Breakfast. 

• Jones Center and lower school students made lovely “Get Well” cards for a member of our community.

• Fourth-grade students wrote "thank you for your service" notes to show their gratitude to the many different people who serve the AOS community. 

• Fifth-grade science students are currently working together in teams to solve real-world problems with the first being to help the school find the most efficient way to put away dishes and dispose of food after lunch.

• Middle school STEM classes are developing 3D printed devices for someone with limited hand mobility or vision impairment.

• Middle school engineering classes are collaborating with the music and drama departments to create props and stage sets for this year's musical production.

We will continue adding to this list throughout the year. We encourage you to help your child(ren) to find ways to serve others at home as well by lending a helping hand to anyone in need and, as always, putting agape at the forefront.
