Got Plot?

5th-grade students identify the parts of plot

Students in Mrs. Ferguson’s class worked in pairs to identify the essential parts of plot. These 5th-grade students are currently studying realistic fiction and have been working with a short story titled, “Back to Normal.” As you might guess, the story is based on current events! To understand plot structure, students first learned the basic elements for fictional texts. Using moments from "Back to Normal" on paper strips, they identified each part of the plot (character, setting, important events, climax, conflict, resolution, and conclusion) and put the story in the correct order.
