Word of the Month | Agape
5th Grade Students

This month's Word Of The Month is agape that comes from the Greek language. I bet you have heard this word all around the school, but do you truly know what it means? To me, agape means the highest form of love. Like the love of a parent, a friend, but mostly God’s.

Agape means a lot to AOS and the community. You probably hear it in Chapel, in Religion class, or maybe just in your normal homeroom or advisory classrooms.

One time, someone showed agape to me when my best friends Myergrace and Maggie noticed that I was feeling down and asked me what was wrong. One way that I showed agape was when a new girl looked lonely, and I asked her if she wanted to play with me and my friends. Even though she said no, I respected that answer and said that if she changed her mind and wanted to come and play with us she could. At school we show agape by helping someone who is hurt.

This month, I challenge you to think about how you show agape in the community. In the Bible, a verse about agape is Matthew 22:39. I really like this one even if it's basic. “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
