Annunciation Orthodox School is an independent coeducational day school in the Museum/Montrose area of Houston, Texas.  Founded in 1970 as a ministry of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, AOS is a Christian-based school that embraces all faiths and serves over 690 children from preschool through eighth grade. AOS offers a challenging academic curriculum within a nurturing Christian environment that encompasses a balance of academic, spiritual, physical, and social experiences that enrich students’ lives. In addition to preparing students for their academic steps, AOS works in partnership with parents to lay solid foundations for life as we help to develop “the whole child.”  As our motto suggests, we are a school for hearts and minds.

  • 7th and 8th Grade Baseball Coach

    Job Description:
    • To head the AOS Boys Baseball Program in the skill development and personal growth of the athletes on the team
    Essential Functions:
    • Attending morning (8:00 – 8:40 am) and afternoon (2:40 – 3:30 pm) batting practices at AOS and after school off campus practices until 5:15 pm
    • Attending all after school games
    • Works closely with the Athletic Director
    • Working outside and being able to move equipment and other items needed for a quality practice
    • Provide athletic guidance and training to the Baseball athletes
    • Rides the bus to practices and games at AOS off-campus fields
    Qualifications:
    • Head Baseball coaching experience
    • Knowledge of Baseball a priority
    • A college or high school degree
    • Strategic thinking with strong organizational skills
    Start Date:
    • Position runs from February 11 through April 25

  • 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher

    The sixth grade Social Studies teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops the students’ ability to think critically, write analytically, read, listen, comprehend, and speak thoughtfully that is fundamental to communicating effectively. This course introduces students to the beginning of the human story as they explore the great civilizations of Ancient Egypt and the Middle East, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome.  Students discover the secrets of these cultures that continue to influence the modern world.
    Job Responsibilities:
     
    • Actions and values align with the school’s mission and culture
    • Creates lesson plans based on sound research-based methods of instruction
    • Maintains and revise the subject area curriculum map using Rubicon Atlas
    • Provides effective and supportive feedback to students and parents
    • Implement a classroom management style that aligns with the school’s mission and culture
    • Shows proficiency with Google Suite for Education productivity tools
    • Integrates technology into the curriculum to serve the needs of all learners
    • Maintains an accurate and up to date class page on the school’s website
    • Communicates and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders within the school community
    • Attends at least one grade-level class trip (typically three days)
    • Serves as an advisor to a group of students; mentors and follows the students’ academic progress
    • Conducts parent/teacher conferences for classroom students
    • Conducts parent/teacher conferences for all members of the advisory two times per year or when needed
    • Participates in school events and community service projects
    • Attends professional development guided by the Administration
    • Fulfills any daily duties deemed necessary by the Administration
    Qualifications:
    • A bachelor’s degree in related field
    • Teaching certificate preferred
    • Minimum of three years experience teaching Social Studies to middle or high school students
    • Experience using literacy strategies to build and assess students reading comprehension skills, word knowledge, reading fluency, written comprehension skills, and critical thinking
    • Possess core knowledge of the development of middle school age children
    • Possess core knowledge about best, research-based practices for effective instruction of the middle school learner
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the AOS students, parents, faculty and staff
    • Ability to get along well with co-workers and other school community members, and fully support the Administration

  • Extended Day Center Counselor

    Annunciation Orthodox School is looking for qualified candidates for Extended
    Day Center Counselors.  Counselors are needed to work with children 3 years old - 8th
    grade from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Extended Day Center Counselors help to
    support a flexible program and create an environment favorable to learning and
    personal growth.  They bring a creative and energetic quality and encourage
    children to learn through activities and experiences.
    Job Requirements:
    As with all openings, the School seeks candidates who are eager to support the Mission of Annunciation Orthodox School, as we develop the “hearts and minds” of our students.
    To be considered for this position, qualified candidates will meet the following  requirements:
    • Must be 18 years or older
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required
    • Experience working with children in an aftercare, summer camp or similar
    • environment
    • Ability to write and speak effectively
    • Ability to work well with other teachers and families

  • Substitute Nurse

    Annunciation Orthodox School is looking for qualified candidates for substitute nurses.  This work schedule would be on an “as needed” basis.
    Requirements include:
    • Valid Texas LVN or RN License
    • Minimum of one year of pediatric or school nursing experience
    • Current CPR Certification
    • IDDM experience (Pen and Pump)
    This person will need to be responsible and detail oriented.  They will be interacting with children, parents and educational professionals so they must be able to communicate easily at all levels.  Finally, this person will need to be able to work independently.
