  • Big Art Day

    Big Art Day (March 7) is a day dedicated statewide by the Texas Art Education Association to raising awareness of art education. In honor of this day of art and community engagement, Visual Art Teachers Mrs. Amy Ailor and Mrs. Meredith Wise led our Lower School and Middle School students through a cross-division collaboration where students wove together hand-painted strips of paper to create a basketweave/mosaic-like effect.

  • Softball Team Wins

    The AOS softball team won the 19th Annual St. Francis Episcopal Middle School Softball Tournament on March 2, 2019!  Eight schools competed, and the Dolphins beat Kinkaid in the championship game 8-5.  One of our students, Emma, was named MVP of the tournament!  Helen, Kate, and Olivia were named the team All-Stars.  Way to go, girls!

  • Pink Shirt Day

    Drs. Jacquie Jaffe and Ivy Ruths facilitated Pink Shirt Day at AOS for the first time on February 27, 2019.  Jones Center, Lower School, and Middle School students as well as faculty, staff, and parents wore pink to take a stand against any type of bullying behavior. We talked about what we can do when we experience or see bullying behavior, how to be an upstander, and when to ask for help.  As a community, we say, "The bullying STOPS here!"

  • Our Academic Competitions

    International Academic Competitions has posted the official results from the Houston Regional Finals held on February 23, 2019.  Seven AOS students participated in what was a very successful bee for AOS! In the 8th grade, Alex came in 1st place in the Academic Bee, 1st in the Science Bee and 2nd in the History Bee. His fellow classmate Landon came in 3rd in the Academic Bee. In the 7th grade, Nadiya came in 3rd in the Science Bee and 1st place in the Academic Bee. Congrats and good luck to Alex, Landon, Ellison, Rhys, and Nadiya who are now qualified for the National Bee to be held in Chicago on June 7-10!

  • Zoo Overnight for Third Graders

    Our lucky third graders had an overnight stay February 22 at the Houston Zoo.  They had a guided night hike around the Zoo and participated in engaging activities to learn more about animals.

    AOS parent Dr. Kathy Pazmino paid a special visit to the Jones Center classes February 20 in honor of National Children's Dental Health Month. She taught the preschoolers (Delphi) and prekindergarten children about dental health and demonstrated proper flossing technique with a Delphi-size model! Thank you, Dr. Pazmino!

    We sure are lucky!  AOS is hosting award-winning author Allan Wolf this week.  He has led our fourth-eighth graders through a series of writing workshops focused on “History as Story.”  Third graders were entertained by his performance of outer space poems from his new book The Day The Universe Exploded My Head.
